Former Intimidator outfielder Thompson recalled by Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO (August 3, 2015) - The Chicago White Sox have recalled 2011 Kannapolis Intimidators outfielder Trayce Thompson to the Major League roster from Class AAA Charlotte today. Thompson is the 85th player to go from Kannapolis to MLB and the 61st since the Intimidators became a White Sox affiliate in 2001. This season, he is batting .260 (101-388) with 23 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs, and 39 RBI while scoring 53 runs and stealing 11 bases in 104 games with Charlotte. 

Thompson, 24, played in Kannapolis in 2010 and 2011 after being drafted by the White Sox in the second round of the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Santa Margarita (Calif.) High School. In 2011, Thompson led the South Atlantic League in games played (136) and runs scored (95), ranked third in home runs (24), extra-base hits (62), and at-bats (519), tied for third in RBI (87), fourth in total bases (237), and tied for fourth in doubles (23) while batting .241 (125-519) with Kannapolis. His 24 home runs in 2011 are the second-highest single-season total in Intimidators franchise history.  

The former Intimidator is the No. 15 Prospect in the White Sox system, according to MLB.com. Thompson is a three-time organizational All-Star (2011-12, 2014). Thompson's father, Mychal, played 13 seasons in the NBA with Portland, San Antonio, and the Lakers after being selected No. 1 overall in the 1978 draft. His brother, Klay, currently plays for the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors while his other brother, Mychel, played for the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2011-12 season.
