NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds shut down the Memphis Redbirds in game two on Thursday, downing their cross-state rivals 8-0.
Tyler Waldron made the spot-start for the Redbirds, allowing four runs on five hits over one 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out four.
Right-hander Marcus Hatley entered the game in relief of Waldron, tossing two 1/3 innings while allowing three runs on three hits, including a home run to Sounds utility man Ryan Roberts.
Xavier Scruggs' base hit in the top of the sixth inning snapped an 0-for-23 drought for the Redbirds' first baseman.
All-Star reliever Dean Kiekhefer allowed an unearned run in two innings on the hill for Memphis.
The Redbirds and Sounds are back in action tomorrow when right-hander Zach Petrick (6-5, 4.31) gets the nod for Memphis. Nashville will counter with fellow righty Zach Neal (7-5, 3.59) with first pitch from First Tennessee Park set for 7:05pm CT.
