Flashback: July in the Florida State League
July 3 -- St. Lucie tied a franchise record by winning its ninth straight game with a 3-2 victory over Vero Beach. The Mets came back from a 2-0 deficit on Caleb Stewart's solo shot in the seventh inning and Joshua Peterson's two-run blast in the eighth.

July 7 -- Ben Himes hit the high point of his season when he went 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs to propel Tampa to a 14-8 triumph over Lakeland. He delivered an RBI single in the opening frame, a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI triple in the fifth. The performance raised his batting average to .236.
July 9 -- St. Lucie manager Gary Carter was rolling in big victories in 2006. One of them was piloting the U.S. team to an 8-5 victory over the World squad in the All-Star Futures Game. He returned to the Mets and helped them win their second FSL title in four years.
July 9 -- Sarasota's James Avery put together his best streak of the season to win Pitcher of the Week honors. The Moose Jaw, Sask., product tossed 13 shutout innings, picking up back-to-back wins for the first time. The capper was a complete-game, four-hit gem in a 1-0 blanking of Fort Myers on July 9.
July 10 -- Jupiter's Grant Psomas picked up the Offensive Player of the Week award by hitting .357 with three homers and seven RBIs from July 3-9. After capturing the honor, the Hammerheads' third baseman was injured and would have to wait until Aug. 22 to get back on the field.
July 10 -- Ryan Patterson already produced a huge highlight by going 6-for-6 with three homers and nine RBIs on May 8. He provided an encore in Dunedin's 11-8 loss to Clearwater by driving in six runs. Patterson launched a grand slam in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the seventh, but the Blue Jays were outhit, 19-10.
July 12 -- Palm Beach opened a doubleheader against Vero Beach with an 11-9 win. The nightcap was all about the Cardinals' pitching, especially Tyler Adamczyk, who combined with two relievers to one-hit the Dodgers, 1-0. Adamczyk pitched four frames and allowed just a second-inning single to Carlos Santana. Brian Stitt followed with two perfect frames to nab the win and Dennis Dove got three groundouts in the seventh to secure the save.

July 15 -- Nick Webber gave up a total of three runs in his first three July starts. His last outing was the most impressive as he tossed a three-hitter in Palm Beach's 6-1 victory over Daytona. The Florida State League thought it was impressive as well, naming Webber its Pitcher of the Week.
July 16 -- Ryan Harvey set a high bar for July performances by driving in seven runs in Daytona's 14-7 trouncing of Palm Beach. Even more remarkable is that Harvey collected all seven RBIs in one inning, highlighting a 12-run first with a three-run double and a grand slam. He went on to grab Offensive Player of the Week honors.
July 18 -- Rodolfo Guillen powered Tampa's 7-2 victory over Palm Beach with his best effort of the season, going 3-for-5 with ahomer and five RBIs. He gave the Yankees the lead for good by launching a three-run blast in the fifth inning.
July 18 -- Rodolfo Guillen wasn't the only one to drive in five runs in the Florida State League on July 18. John Purdom matched that performance with a homer and career-high five RBIs in Sarasota's 11-3 triumph over Vero Beach. Purdom, who finished the season with two homers and 35 RBIs, delivered a two-run single in the third inning and cracked a three-run homer in the fifth.

July 19 -- Philip Humber showed he had recovered from Tommy John surgery by tossing a masterpiece as the right-hander struck out nine over five shutout innings in St. Lucie's 4-1 victory over Lakeland. He made two more starts with the Mets before being promoted to Double-A Binghamton.
July 24 -- From July 15-25, Sarasota's Cody Strait put together an 11-game hitting streak. He recorded six multi-hit games and drove in a run in nine consecutive contests. Fittingly, he was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week award.
July 24 -- Donnie Veal went on a strikeout tear, fanning nine batters over five innings in consecutive starts. His first performance was a gem as he tossed five hitless frames in Daytona's 3-1 victory over Clearwater. The only thing that stopped him was his pitch count. Veal won Pitcher of the Week honors.
July 24 -- Anthony Swarzak's fastball was working so well that he dealt a one-hitter in Fort Myers' 6-0 blanking of Palm Beach. The right-hander threw only 88 pitches and kept the Cardinals hitless until Randy Roth's fifth-inning double.
July 24 -- It was a grand game for Bryan Hansen and Tim Moss with each belting a slam in Clearwater's 11-5 victory over Brevard County. Hansen went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, clearing the bases with one swing in the third inning, then singling in a run and scoring on Moss' blast in the sixth.
July 25 -- Carlos Corporan plated five runs as Brevard County topped Clearwater, 8-2. He finished a triple shy of the cycle by drilling an RBI single in the second inning, a two-run double in the third and a two-run homer in the fifth.
July 27 -- Jonathan Meloan gave Vero Beach a dominant start when he gave up two runs on five hits with a season-high 12 strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. The outing set the table for Cory Dunlap's walk-off blast in the Dodgers' 4-2 triumph over Fort Myers.

July 28 -- Brendan Katin batted .330 with five homers and 18 RBIs in July. Much of that production came in Brevard County's 9-3 rout of Dunedin in the second game of a doubleheader, when he went 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs. He belted two-run homers in the first and sixth innings and added an RBI double in the seventh. Katin went on to win Offensive Player of the Week honors on July 31.
July 28 -- Mike Carp was perfect at the plate, recording a 5-for-5, four-RBI game as St. Lucie topped Lakeland, 9-2, in the second game of a doubleheader. He fell a triple shy of the cycle in his first career five-hit performance. The St. Lucie first baseman collected three singles, cracked a two-run shot in the third and an RBI double in the eighth to raise his batting average to .293.
July 28 -- Ryan Harvey knocked in seven runs in one inning earlier in the month, but he topped that performance in historic fashion with a Florida State League-record four homers in Daytona's 10-9 victory over Clearwater. Harvey connected for solo homers in the second, sixth and eighth innings, then hit a walk-off blast in the ninth.
July 30 -- Chase Wright finished off a stellar month by winning his third straight outing. He allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and four walk in six innings in Tampa's 6-1 victory over Jupiter. A day later, he was awarded the Pitcher of the Week award. That sparked an even more impressive August, in which the southpaw went 4-1 en route to a 12-3 record.
