Whitesell, Stavinoha lift Saguaros

November 2, 2006
Josh Whitesell and Nick Stavinoha smacked RBI doubles in the second inning as the Peoria Saguaros held on for a 3-1 victory over visiting Phoenix on Thursday.

Whitesell opened the scoring by following Colt Morton's leadoff single with a double to left field. Following a walk to Chase Headley, Stavinoha ripped a two-base hit to left, making it 2-0.

Peoria (9-11) added a run in the third, when Brendan Ryan singled, moved to second on a throwing error by starter Jordan Tata (0-2) and scored on center fielder Cody Strait's error.

Reliever Jonathan Felfoldi (2-0) picked up the win after yielding a run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts over three innings. Leonel Rosales notched his Arizona Fall League-leading fourth save with a scoreless ninth.

Ben Zobrist singled with two outs in the fifth, stole second and scored the Desert Dogs' lone run on Kevin Melillo's base hit.

Tata surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings for Phoenix (12-8). -- Michael Echan/MLB.com
