Trevor "Stone Cold" Belicek Stuns Yankees Bats, Braves Win 5-1

DANVILLE, VA -  It was Skin Cancer Awareness Night at American Legion Post 325 Field, the D-Braves wore special black jerseys that were auctioned off during the game. The night was sponsored by Centra and the Allan B. Pearson Cancer Center, all proceeds from the jersey auction will be split between the Centra Foundation and Danville Cancer Association. The D-Braves came out swinging the bats early and jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the first three innings and held on for a 5-1 win, evening the series with Pulaski. Starter Trevor Belicek was dealing tonight, as he went five scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven in route to his third victory of the season.

In the bottom of the first inning, D-Braves left fielder Justin Ellison doubled off the center field wall to put a runner in scoring position. Jose Morel would then walk to put runners on first and second with only one out in the inning. D-Braves designated hitter, Carlos Castro, then stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to right field putting the D-Braves on the board first, giving them a 1-0 lead after one.

Danville added three runs in the bottom of the second to increase their lead to 4-0. Third baseman Jacob Lanning would single up the middle to get things started. Then, D-Braves second baseman Yeudi Grullon would single to left field to put runners on first and second for Justin Ellison. Ellison would double yet again, as the ball got passed Yankees shortstop Hoy Jun Park, who was screened from seeing the ball by both Grullon and the fielding umpire, scoring Lanning to increase the D-Braves lead to 2-0. Morel would then single home two runs to double the D-Braves lead to 4-0.

The D-Braves would add yet another run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 5-0. Catcher Trey Keegan would single to lead off the inning, but was retired after Ray Didder would ground into a 4-6 fielder's choice. With Jacob Lanning batting, Yankees pitcher Adonis Rosa would balk and Didder was awarded second base. The very next play, Rosa would make a throwing error trying to pick off Didder at second base, allowing him to advance to third. Lanning would then single up the middle yet again and record the RBI to give the D-Braves a 5-0 lead after three innings.

The score would remain the same from the fourth inning until the top of the ninth when the Yankees spoiled the shutout. The Yankees would get a two out single from second baseman Gosuke Katoh. Yankee left fielder Frank Frias would then walk to give the Yankees runners at first and second with two outs. Yankee outfielder Kendall Coleman would then single, and a throwing error by Grullon would allow the only Yankees run to score. The Applebee's K-Man of the Night, Kane Sweeney, would strike out to end the game and the D-Braves got back on the winning track.

The D-Braves will look to take the series from the Yankees tomorrow afternoon at 4 PM. Every Sunday home game in 2015 is Virginia 529 Day. Students enrolled in a Virginia 529 Plan will receive free General Admission with a Virginia 529 ID card. It is also Blooperstars Kids Club Run the Bases Night. The D-Braves will sent Matt Withrow to the mound to oppose Yankees starter David Palladino.
