It was a close, back-and-forth game up until the sixth inning. The Raptors took an initial 1-0 lead on a Jake Lemmerman solo home run in the first inning. An RBI double by Justin Trapp plated Juan Polonia to tie the game in the third inning. Lemmerman hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to retake the lead. Malcom Culver led off the top of the fourth inning with a single and later scored on a groundout by Jovan Pickett to even the score at 3-3. In the home half of the fourth inning, Jonathan Garcia hit a solo home run to give the Raptors the lead for good.
Chukars' starting pitcher Greg Billo took the loss, his league-leading seventh of the season. Billo allowed three runs in the first five innings, and then faced three batters in the sixth, which were all left on when he left the game. Allen Caldwell replaced Billo and allowed all three of those runners to come home. Billo finished with six earned runs allowed on seven hits in five innings. Caldwell went on to allow no runs of his own in two innings. Alex Rivers had two strikeouts in one shutout inning of work.
The Chukars were outhit 9-6 in the loss. Trapp led the Chukars, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Lead-off hitter Juan Polonia finished 1-for-3 with two walks, two stolen bases and a run scored. In his Chukars debut, Cam Cameron went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a steal.
Thursday's game between the Chukars and Raptors is scheduled for 7:00.
