RiverDogs Doomed by Lexington's Seven-Run Seventh, Fall 11-5
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs trailed by one run after six innings, but the Lexington Legends plated seven runs before an out was recorded in the seventh and took home the 11-5 win, Wednesday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Angel Aguilar hit a one-out single and Billy Fleming drove him in with a double to left. Bo Thompson followed with an RBI single, which cut Lexington's lead to 3-2.
The Legends (18-24 second half, 49-63 overall) plated another run in the top of the fourth, when DonAndre Clark hit a two-out infield RBI single with runners on second and third. Charleston (16-29, 50-65) matched the tally in the bottom of the frame. Vince Conde led off with a double, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on Alexander Palma's infield single.
The score remained 4-3 Legends until the visitors exploded for seven runs before an out was recorded in the seventh and silenced the 2,521 fans in attendance. Chad Johnson hit a two-run double, and Wander Franco and Anderson Miller each drove in a run with a single and double, respectively. Brandon Downes capped off the scoring with a three-run homer just over the wall in dead center field.
Charleston plated two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, as Collin Slaybaugh and Devyn Bolasky scored on Griff Gordon's two-run single.
Lexington scored their first three runs of the game in the top of the second. Downes hit a sacrifice fly to plate Franco, Mike Hill belted an RBI double to left, and Clark singled in Hill to give the Legends an early 3-0 lead.
Justin Kamplain (3-13) lost his league-high 13th game, despite striking out seven batters in six innings pitched. He gave up four runs on eight hits. Royals No. 8 prospect Foster Griffin (1-5) earned his first win of the season.

BALLPARK FUN: There were many fun-filled fan contests during Wednesday night's game. Fans competed in a paddleboarding race on the field. Inflatable jousting amused the crowd, as always. During the ribbon dancing contest, one of the contestants broke out a seersucker suit and amazed the crowd with his incredible skills.
