Longtime San Diego Padres pitcher Tim Stauffer threw a complete game at Southwest University Park for Las Vegas Wednesday, as the 51s beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-1. Stauffer was three outs away from his second professional shutout, but Jake Goebbert led off the bottom of the ninth with a pinch-hit, solo home run to spoil Stauffer's bid.
The 51s hit three home runs in the game, including two by right fielder Travis Taijeron, who finished the game 2-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs. Las Vegas leadoff hitter Dilson Herrera had three hits atop the 51s' order in the win.
El Paso's two hits tied the franchise record for fewest hits in a game. Wednesday's time of game (2:06) tied the mark for second shortest game in Chihuahuas' history.
