Fresno Shuts Down Albuquerque 8-2

NEED TO KNOW: Fresno Grizzlies (68-48) right-handed pitching prospect Mark Appel shut down the Albuquerque Isotopes (51-66) for the second time this season Wednesday night at Isotopes Park as the Grizzlies cruised to an 8-2 victory. In two outings against the Isotopes on the year, Appel has thrown 15.0 innings with two runs allowed, seven hits, two walks and 18 strikeouts.

THE TURNING POINT: Fresno wasted no time taking control of Wednesday's game. The Grizzlies plated three in the first and added four more in the fourth and fifth to take a 7-0 lead before the Isotopes ever got on the board. Albuquerque's first run came on Angelys Nina's RBI triple that scored Roger Bernadina in the bottom of the fifth. The Grizzlies scored their final run in the top of the ninth, and the Topes responded when Trevor Story scored on a groundout in the home half of the inning.

SHADES ON FRIDAY: The first 3,000 fans to Friday night's 7:05 homestand finale will receive a free pair of sunglasses courtesy of Albuquerque the Magazine.

ROCKIES REAL TIME, ISOTOPES EPISODE: Rockies Real Time on ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain will feature the Isotopes in their show following Friday night's Rockies game. The show will highlight much of Albuquerque's recent homestand, including the McDonald's Youth Skills Clinic, right-handed pitcher Boone Whiting's hot air balloon ride and several one-on-one interviews with Isotopes players.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Grizzlies will play game three of their four-game series Thursday night at 6:35. Left-handed pitcher John Lannan (6-6, 5.37 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill for Albuquerque, while Fresno is slated to with right-handed Asher Wojciechowski (6-2, 5.42) on the mound - and that's as hard to type as it is to say.

IN THE HOLE: Following their nine-game, 10-day homestand, the Isotopes will hit the road for an eight-game road trip to Memphis and Nashville beginning August 15.
