Sea Dogs Continue to Roll, Win 6-4

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs have saved their best baseball for last. On Saturday night the Sea Dogs defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-4 at Hadlock Field in front of 6,539 fans. The Sea Dogs (68-71) have won seven of their last nine games; two games remain in the 2010 season.

Nate Spears paced the Portland offense reaching base three times with three RBI's and a run scored. His two-run triple in the bottom of the third gave Portland a 2-1 lead. Spears would score his 99th run of the season on a Ryan Lavarnway sacrifice fly extending the Portland lead to 3-1. Spears picked-up his third RBI of the game when Che-Hsuan Lin scored on his grounder to second base in the fifth inning.

Portland starter Jeremy Kehrt (3-11) had one of his finest outings striking out a Double-A best seven batters to earn his third win. He allowed two runs on four hits in five innings of work. New Hampshire jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Callix Crabbe homered off Kehrt in the first. An Adam Loewen RBI double in the fifth was the only other blemish for Kehrt.

Ryne Lawson provided solid relief holding the Fisher Cats scoreless over three innings, yielding only one hit. Lawson has now pitched scoreless relief in seven of his last nine outings.

Anthony Rizzo blasted his team leading 19th homer of the season in the sixth inning for Portland's fifth run of the game.

Randy Boone (5-10) suffered the loss for New Hampshire allowing five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings on the mound.

New Hampshire made the game interesting in the ninth scoring two runs off Eammon Portice. However, Portice struck out Matt Luizza to end the game preserving the Portland victory.

Donning replica 1926 Portland Eskimo uniforms, Stephen Fife (7-6, 4.80) gets the start for the Sea Dogs. The Fisher Cats will send Clint Everts (1-0, 4.25) to the mound.
