August 13, 2015

DES MOINES, Iowa  - The Chicago Cubs made a series of transactions today affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game against Nashville at Principal Park. Infielder Tommy La Stella  has been activated by Iowa after being optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday. In addition, lefthanded pitcher Eric Jokisch  has been activated from the disabled list (rib cage), infielder/outfielder Arismendy Alcantara has been placed on the inactive list and righthanded pitcher Frank Batista has been placed on the disabled list.

La Stella, 26, has been on the disabled list since April 14 with a right oblique strain first suffered on April 10 and reaggravated in May. He saw action in two games with Chicago prior to his initial injury, going 1-for-6 (.167). He batted .250 (9-for-36) with three doubles and three RBI in 10 games covering a pair of rehab assignments with Double-A Tennessee.

The Cubs acquired La Stella from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for righthanded pitcher Arodys Vizcaino on Nov. 16, 2014. He made Chicago's Opening Day roster after hitting .373 (19-for-51) with two RBI and nine runs scored in Spring Training.

Jokisch, 26, rejoins Iowa after being placed on the disabled list June 11 with a sore rib cage. He has not started a game for the ICubs since June 9. The southpaw is 33 with a 4.40 ERA (21ER/38.0IP) and 26 strikeouts in nine starts for Iowa this season. Before his activation, Jokisch made three rehab starts at Rookie-level Mesa and went 1-1 with a 0.79 ERA (1ER/11.1IP) and eight strikeouts.

Alcantara, 23, is hitting .233 (90-for-387) with 12 home runs, 17 doubles and 30 RBI in 100 games for Iowa this season. He also leads the Pacific Coast League with 10 triples.

Batista, 26, is 14 with a 6.48 ERA (18ER/25.0IP) in nine games, including four starts, with Iowa this season. He joined the I-Cubs June 24 from Double-A Tennessee where he was 72 with a 1.70 ERA (15ER/79.1IP) and 52 strikeouts in 13 starts.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is full at 25 players plus two players on the disabled list, one player on the suspended list, one player on the inactive list and one player on major league rehab.
