Flashback: August-September in the FSL
Aug. 2 -- Jesus Flores recorded his second four-hit game of the season in St. Lucie's 6-2 victory over Daytona. The 21-year-old catcher singled twice and stroked an RBI double and a two-run homer. He also collected four hits against Daytona on April 17.
Aug. 2 -- Lakeland completed a triple play and defeated Sarasota, 5-1. With runners on first and second in the sixth inning, Trevor Lawhorn popped out to first baseman James Essian, who threw to shortstop Brent Dlugach covering second base. Dlugach fired to second baseman Juan Francia, who completed the rare feat.
Aug. 3 -- Jupiter used a six-run seventh inning to rally past Dunedin, 6-5. With the Hammerheads trailing, 4-0, Jai Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before J.T. Resko slapped a two-run single and Juan Figueroa belted a three-run homer.
Aug. 4 -- Brock Peterson and David Winfree each had three hits, including a home run, as Fort Myers posted a 7-2 win over Brevard County. Peterson extended his hitting streak to nine games and Winfree later was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Aug. 4 -- Adolfo Gonzalez homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs
as Vero Beach doubled up Sarasota, 10-5. Gonzalez slugged a two-run homer in the first inning, a three-run shot in the second and deivered an RBI single in the sixth. The 21-year-old infielder had four hits in two games to break out of an 0-for-13 slump.

Aug. 5 -- David Winfree hit a three-run homer and Brandon Roberts went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Fort Myers posted a 10-4 victory over Brevard County. Kyle Aselton walked five and fanned three over five hitless innings for the win. Manatees left fielder Freddy Parejo doubled in the seventh to break up the no-hit bid. Brevard County third baseman Ryan Crew went 0-for-4, ending his 14-game hitting streak.
Aug. 6 -- St. Lucie's Salvador Aguilar pitched six scoreless innings to win his fifth straight decision as the Mets posted a 4-1 victory over Clearwater. Aguilar yielded two hits and walked three as he lowered his ERA to 3.17. Fernando Martinez and Enrique Cruz homered for the Mets.
Aug. 6 -- Ryan Bicondoa struck out a season-high 12 over 7 1/3 innings and Jemel Spearman hit a walk-off two-run homer in the ninth inning to give Daytona a 3-1 win over Lakeland. Bicondoa gave up one run on five hits, lowering his ERA to 1.93 in three starts for the Cubs. In 18 2/3 innings, he struck out 25 and walked one.
Aug. 7 -- Paul Janish homered in the seventh inning to lift Sarasota over Brevard County, 5-3. With the score knotted, 3-3, Janish followed a one-out walk to Marland Williams with a drive over the left-field fence for his seventh homer.
Aug. 8 -- Blake Eager pitched his first career shutout as St. Lucie blanked Dunedin, 6-0, in the second game of a doubleheader. Eager gave up three singles, walked one and struck out four over seven innings.
Aug. 9 -- Jared Greenwood hit a pair of two-run homers to lead Tampa over Daytona, 5-1. The 23-year-old catcher followed Edwar Gonzalez's leadoff single in the second inning with his 10th homer. In the sixth, Gonzalez led off with a double and Greenwood followed with a blast over the right-field wall.
Aug. 10 -- St. Lucie's Chuck Smith and Timothy McNab limited Dunedin to five hits in a 6-2 victory. Smith pitched six innings and left without a decision before McNab gave up one hit and struck out one over three scoreless frames for the win. Mets catcher Jesus Flores hit solo homers in the second and sixth innings, and Alhaji Turay clubbed a two-run shot in the ninth.
Aug. 11 -- Anthony Swarzak struck out a season-high 11 as Fort Myers blanked Sarasota, 7-0. The 20-year-old right-hander allowed three hits and walked one over 7 2/3 innings and later was named Pitcher of the Week. During a five-start stretch beginning July 9, Swarzak was 4-0 with a 1.95 ERA.
Aug. 11 -- Caleb Stewart blasted a walk-off three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning
to give St. Lucie a 6-3 win over Vero Beach. Jose Coronado, Corey Coles and Mike Carp each had two hits for the Mets.

Aug. 12 -- Cody Ehlers and Carlos Mendoza both went 3-for-3 as Tampa defeated Lakeland, 6-4. Ehlers slapped a two-run single to tie the score in the third inning and slugged a two-run homer in the fifth to put the Yankees ahead.
Aug. 14 -- Four pitchers combined on a two-hitter as Fort Myers blanked Jupiter, 3-0, in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Miracle starter Jeff Manship struck out three in two perfect innings before J.P. Martinez yielded two hits, walked one and fanned three in two frames for the win. Tim Lahey pitched the fifth and sixth and Daniel Powers struck out the side in the seventh for his sixth save.
Aug. 15 -- Jay Garthwaite was a triple shy of the cycle and drove in a season-best six runs as Sarasota defeated Daytona, 11-4. The 25-year-old left fielder delivered an RBI single in the first inning and laced a run-scoring double in the second before belting a grand slam in the fifth.
Aug. 16 -- Jose Sanchez and Carlos Muniz combined on a two-hitter in St. Lucie's 7-2 defeat of Clearwater, 7-2. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- on two hits and a walk with one strikeout over seven innings to halt a personal three-game losing streak. Caleb Stewart, who later was named Offensive Player of the Week, had three of St. Lucie's 11 hits and drove in four runs.
Aug. 17 -- Corey Coles went 3-for-4 as St. Lucie shut down Clearwater, 4-1. The 24-year-old left fielder extended his hitting steak to 12 games with a double in the first inning. He also tripled in the fifth and smacked an RBI single in the sixth.
Aug. 18 -- Julio De La Cruz tossed Clearwater's first no-hitter in 14 years as the Threshers blanked Sarasota, 5-0. De La Cruz struck out five, walked one and faced just two batters over the minimum to earn his second win in nine starts. The Dominican right-hander lowered his ERA to 4.11 and earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Aug. 19 -- Vero Beach's Marlon Arias struck out a season-high 12 in a losing effort
as Jupiter posted a 3-2 victory. The 21-year-old left-hander surrendered three runs on nine hits over seven innings. Brad McCann went 3-for-4 with a homer for the Hammerheads.

Aug. 20 -- Vero Beach catcher Juan Apodaca belted three home runs
as the Dodgers routed Jupiter, 16-6. The 20-year-old slugged a three-run shot during a six-run first inning and hit solo blasts in the third and seventh. He had just two homers in his previous 79 games.

Aug. 21 -- Ryan Crew and Adam Heether each
collected a season-high four hits
to lead Brevard County to a 10-7 victory over Vero Beach. Crew went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Vero Beach's David Nicholson also had four hits.

Aug. 22 -- Chase Wright tossed a five-hitter as Tampa blanked Sarasota, 5-0, in the opener of a doubleheader. Wright walked three and struck out five over seven innings. The 23-year-old left-hander claimed victories in six of seven starts.
Aug. 22 -- Derek Miller and Joe Thatcher
combined on a one-hitter
as Brevard County whitewashed Vero Beach, 2-0. Miller, who allowed a two-out double to Russell Mitchell in the first inning, walked two and struck out 10 over six frames. Thatcher fanned two over three perfect innings to nab his second save.

Aug. 23 -- David Winfree had two hits and drove in four runs to lead Fort Myers past Clearwater, 6-5. He lined a run-scoring double in the first inning and smacked a three-run homer in the second. Anthony Swarzak reached double digits in wins after yielding two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Aug. 24 -- Marland Williams recorded his first multi-homer game since Sept. 2, 2005, as Sarasota doubled up Clearwater, 10-5. The 25-year-old center fielder hit a two-run blast in the second inning and a solo shot in the fourth. Jay Garthwaite and Cody Strait also homered, while Paul Janish 4-for-5 with an RBI to pace the Reds' 12-hit attack.
Aug. 25 -- Fort Myers first baseman Brock Peterson hit his 20th homer to tie a team record, but it came in a losing effort as Lakeland posted a 7-6 win. Peterson connected for a two-run shot in the first inning to match the club record shared by Tommy Peterman (1998) and Matthew LeCroy (1999).
Aug. 26 -- Oswaldo Sosa, Jose Mijares and Daniel Powers combined on a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Fort Myers blanked Lakeland, 3-0. Sosa gave up both hits, walked four and struck out five over five innings to win his fourth straight decision. Mijares and Powers retired the final 12 batters in order.
Aug. 27 -- Kyle Aselton won for the fourth time in his last five starts as Fort Myers defeated Lakeland, 6-2. The 23-year-old southpaw allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five in five innings. The loss eliminated the Tigers from postseason contention.
Aug. 28 -- Gregory Golson hit for the cycle in Clearwater's 5-1 win over Fort Myers. The 20-year-old center fielder slugged solo homer in the first inning, an RBI single in the second, a triple in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the eighth.
Aug. 29 -- Jay Garthwaite matched a season high with six RBIs and three pitchers combined on a one-hitter as Sarasota plounded Tampa, 9-1. Garthwaite hit a two-run double in the sixth inning and clubbed a grand slam in the seventh. James Avery allowed a homer before retiring 11 straight batters over five innings. Brandon Camardese walked two and struck out two over three frames and Carlos Bohorquez pitched a perfect ninth.
Aug. 30 -- Erold Andrus went 3-for-5 with four RBIs to lead Fort Myers over Clearwater, 7-5. Andrus singled in the second, smacked a three-run homer in the third and delivered a run-scoring triple in the sixth.
Aug. 31 -- James Essian went 3-for-5 with three RBIs as Lakeland defeated Tampa, 7-3. Brent Dlugach snapped a tie with a two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning before Essian slugged a two-run homer.
Sept. 1 -- Aaron Mathews went 4-for-5 and recorded his third multi-homer game of the season as Dunedin beat Clearwater, 7-2. Mathews hit a solo homer in the third and sixth innings in his fourth straight multi-hit game. He raised his batting average to .284 and later was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Sept. 1 -- New York Mets left fielder Cliff Floyd homered twice on a rehab assignment to power St. Lucie to a 6-1 victory over Vero Beach. Recovering from tendinitis in his left Achilles, Floyd belted two-run homers in the sixth and eighth innings.
Sept. 2 -- Fort Myers captured the West Division title with a 9-1 victory over Sarasota. Steven Tolleson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. J.P. Martinez and Tim Lahey combined on three innings of perfect relief of Miracle starter Jose Mijares. Fort Myers first baseman Brock Peterson hit his 21st homer to break the club record.
Sept 3 -- Cory Patton went deep twice as Dunedin outslugged Clearwater, 15-8, in the regular-season finale for both teams. Patton hit his 10th homer in the fifth inning and snapped a 7-7 tie with a two-run blast during a six-run seventh.
Sept. 5 -- Brandon Roberts ripped a run-scoring double with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Fort Myers past visiting Dunedin, 6-5, in the opener of their best-of-3 first-round playoff series. Trevor Plouffe and Steven Tolleson had three hits apiece for the Miracle, who recorded just their second postseason victory since 1995.
Sept. 5 -- Jose Sanchez pitched six solid innings as St. Lucie posted a 6-4 victory over Palm Beach in the opener of their best-of-3 playoff series. Sanchez gave up a run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Alhaji Turay had two hits and two RBIs for the Mets.
Sept. 6 -- Dunedin edged Fort Myers, 4-3, to force
a decisive Game 3 in their first-round series. Blue Jays starter Jesse Litsch yielded a run on six hits while striking out four in five innings. Dunedin's Christian Snavely delivered a two-run single in the second.

Sept. 6 -- St. Lucie edged Palm Beach, 6-5, to sweep their first-round series. Jonathan Malo's two-out, three-run homer in the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie. Kevin Tomasiewicz tossed 2 2/3 hitless innings to pick up the win.
Sept. 7 -- Ron Davenport singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as Dunedin edged Fort Myers, 3-2, to advance to the FSL Championship Series. With two outs in the ninth, Juan Peralta singled and stole second base. Tim Lahey walked Aaron Mathews and Robinzon Diaz to load the bases before Davenport deposited a base hit to center field.
Sept. 8 -- Alhaji Turay went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored as St. Lucie opened the Championship Series with a 7-5 triumph over Dunedin. Turay doubled and scored in the fifth inning, belted a solo homer in the seventh and delivered a two-run double in the ninth.
Sept. 9 -- St. Lucie scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Dunedin, 5-3, in Game 2 of the FSL Finals. The Mets trailed, 3-1, before Mike Carp delivered an RBI double and Enrique Cruz slugged a three-run homer.
Sept. 10 -- St. Lucie posted a 6-2 win over Dunedin to complete a three-game sweep and capture its second FSL title in four years. Jesus Flores went 4-for-4 and Fernando Martinez homered for the Mets, who rapped 15 hits. St. Lucie starter Jose Sanchez yielded one run on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking four.
