Jones to manage RedHawks

Returns to Oklahoma after serving as Rangers' coach
November 9, 2006
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have announced that first-base coach Bobby Jones has accepted a job to return as manager of Triple-A Oklahoma.

Mike Boulanger, who was the RedHawks manager for most of last season, will be one of his coaches along with pitching coach Andy Hawkins.

"Bobby epitomizes the Rangers, having played, coached and managed at various levels of our development system for years," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We are happy he will continue to lead our Oklahoma club and be a key piece of the organization's future success."

Jones, the first-base coach in 2006 and previously in 2000-2001 under Johnny Oates, has 17 years of Minor League managerial experience in the organization, including six with the RedHawks. His overall record in the Minors is 1,139-1,134 with 10 playoff appearances. He is the winningest manager in Oklahoma history.

In other news, John Mayberry Jr., the Rangers' 2005 first-round draft pick, has been named Hawaii Winter Baseball's Position Player of the Week for Oct. 31-Nov. 5.

Mayberry batted .476 (10-21) on the week with one home run, four runs scored and eight RBIs for the West Oahu CaneFires. On Nov. 5 against the North Shore Honu, Mayberry went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBIs.
