Knights Finishing Up the Season Strong
Charlotte Wins 5-1 over Gwinnett; Gartrell Hits 27th Home Run
FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights are making it a point to finish up the season on a high note as they won their second straight game 5-1 over the Gwinnett Braves. The Knights are now 14-6 against Gwinnett on the year.
The Knights had an outstanding pitching performance from starter Freddy Dolsi. The converted reliever pitched 6.0 innings allowing just one run and struck out five. It was his second straight start in which he pitched a minimum of six innings.
Charlotte put up their first run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With two outs Rob Hudson hit a double down the right field line for the Knights first hit of the ball game. On the next pitch Hudson scored on an RBI single off the bat of Buck Coats.
The Knights used the long ball to help extend the lead the rest of the game. Stefan Gartrell hit his team leading 27th home run of the season in the 4th inning, a two-run shot to left field. Two innings later Luis Rodriguez hit a two-run homer of his own to extend the Charlotte lead.
The Knights and Braves play the season finale tomorrow at 12:15 PM. The Braves will start RHP Erik Cordier (0-1, 67.50 ERA) and the Knights will counter with RHP Jeff Marquez (8-8, 4.38 ERA).
