Rangers promote Mazara to Triple-A
The Rangers promoted No. 2 prospect Nomar Mazara to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, according to MLB.com.
The 20-year-old right-fielder was moved up from Double-A Frisco after hitting .284 with 13 homers, 56 RBIs and a .357 on-base percentage in 409 at-bats over 111 games in the Texas League this summer. MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan first reported the move on Twitter on Monday afternoon.
The Rangers also placed outfielder Leonys Martin on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured hand.
Mazara signed with the Rangers as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2011 and is now considered the organization's top hitting prospect outside of Joey Gallo. He batted .271 with 22 homers, 89 RBIs and a .362 OBP last season between Frisco and Class A Hickory. In 2013, his first full Minor League season, he amassed 13 homers and 62 RBIs in 126 games in the South Atlantic League.
The outfield prospect, who is ranked No. 17 overall by MLB.com, is coming off one of hisbi best months of the season in July, when he hit .296 with four homers and 14 RBIs in 25 games. He collected seven home runs and 21 RBIs in June, but was in an 0-for-10 slump when he was promoted Monday..
Mazara was a Futures Game All-Star this season in Cincinnati, representing the World Team, and also was named a Texas League midseason All-Star.
