Holt, Javs outslug Solar Sox

Braves prospect stays hot with three hits, three runs

J.C. Holt delivered a two-run single to cap a six-run second inning Saturday as the Peoria Javelinas outslugged the Mesa Solar Sox, 13-10.

The 23-year-old leadoff hitter went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and is 9-for-17 with seven runs scored in his last four games. Holt is hitting .421 in 13 AFL games.

After Josh Burrus and Gaby Sanchez each drove in a run in the second, Brett Carroll delivered a two-run double to give the Javelinas (11-17) a 7-2 lead. Sanchez, who also slugged a solo homer in the third, drove in three runs, while Burrus plated two.

Peoria starter Bobby Livingston (1-3) worked six innings, yielding three runs on six hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Tony Sipp fanned two in a perfect ninth to notch his first save.

Mesa starter Matt Albers (0-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout in one inning.

Jake Fox homered and drove in three runs for the Solar Sox (14-14), who have dropped two in a row following a four-game winning streak snapped. Matt Tolbert went 3-for-5 with an RBI, while David Winfree, Scott Moore and Michel Abreu each drove in a run.

Chad Spann, Yunel Escobar, Dustin Brown and Michael Garciaparra had an RBI apiece for the Javelinas, who rapped 14 hits.
