Kaleb Cowart Receives First MLB Call Up
SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 18, 2015) - The Los Angeles Angels announced today that the team has selected the contract of Bees third baseman Kaleb Cowart and promoted him to the Major League roster. The former Bees infielder is scheduled to start at third base and hit ninth for the Halos at Angel Stadium in Anaheim Tuesday night.
Cowart, 23, was a first round draft choice (18th overall) by the Angels in 2010 out of Cook High School in Adel, Georgia and has played in 62 games for the Bees since being promoted from Single-A Inland Empire on June 12. The infielder was hitting .323 with a team-best .429 on-base percentage for Salt Lake. Despite spending two months in Single-A, Cowart is fourth on the Bees with 45 RBIs. Cowart is the fifth Salt Lake player to make his MLB debut with the Angels this season joining catcher Carlos Perez, infielder Kyle Kubitza and relievers Edgar Ibarra and Trevor Gott. Overall, the Bees and Angels have had 25 players suit up for both teams in 2015.
The Bees homestand continues through Saturday, Aug. 22 with games against the Omaha Storm Chasers and Iowa Cubs. Promotions during the homestand include Fan Appreciation Night with fireworks on Friday and Superhero Night on Saturday. Additional promotional and ticket information is available at www.slbees.com.
