Raptors bats explode for 13-8 win

August 21, 2015

The Helena Brewers (4-16) lost their ninth game in 10 days on Thursday, falling 13-8 to the Ogden Raptors (12-8) at Lindquist Field in Utah.

Ogden scored 13 runs on 17 hits in the game, their hit tally would tie a season-high for opponents. It is the third time this season Helena has given up 17 hits in a game.

Alex Santana led the early surge for the Raptors, going 4-for-5 with two homeruns and a triple in the game. He added in six RBI and two runs scored. The Raptors would score all 13 of their runs in the first five innings.

Drake Owenby (1-2) was roughed up in the start, giving up seven runs in two innings. It was just his third appearance since taking two weeks off due to fatigue.

Christian Trent also made his return from almost a month off of pitching. The Ole Miss alum threw just one inning of relief, giving up three runs on three hits.

The Brewers' offense woke up in the third when Jonathan Oquendo and Carlos Belonis hit back-to-back doubles to get the scoring started. Two runs scored in the inning on just those two hits.

Troy Stokes added to the tally with a three-run homerun in the sixth, his fifth of the season. The Brewers scored six unanswered runs over the last four innings, but the deficit would be too great to overcome.

Helena had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, but only one run would come in to score as Marcus Crescentini struck out Belonis to end the game.

The Brewers now return to Helena to host the Great Falls Voyagers in a four-game series. First pitch on Friday is set for 7:05 p.m.
