Eight To Go: Power beat BlueClaws 4-2

McRae's strong start puts magic number down to eight
August 22, 2015

(Charleston, W.V. - August 22, 2015) - The West Virginia Power defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-2 on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. Alex McRae went a career-long seven innings and got support offensively thanks in large part to Tyler Filliben's first career South Atlantic League home run. The victory also puts West Virginia's magic number at eight.

The Power opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Taylor Gushue laced a two-out RBI single up the middle to score Elvis Escobar and gave West Virginia a 1-0 lead.

Lakewood tied the game in the fourth inning. Drew Stankiewicz tallied the first hit of the night for the BlueClaws, a triple off the wall in right and he scored on an RBI single from Herlis Rodriguez.

West Virginia reclaimed the lead in the fifth and scored their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth. After Tito Polo hit a leadoff double, he advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly from Chase Simpson. In the sixth, Jerrick Suiter reached on an error and scored when Tyler Filliben ripped a ball down the line in left. Lakewood left fielder Cord Sandberg didn't pick up the ball by the bullpen and the umpires never ruled the ball dead. As a result, Filliben hit his first career home run in the South Atlantic League, an inside-the-park homer.

The BlueClaws scored in the ninth inning on a double play groundout.

McRae (6-9) received the victory after he went a career-high seven innings and surrendered two hits. McRae surrendered just the two hits and retired each of the final ten batters faced. Tyler Viza (4-9) suffered the loss despite tossing a complete game with four runs (one earned). Edgar Santana notched his first career save in the South Atlantic League.
