Loux Named PCL Pitcher of the Week
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Round Rock Express right-hander Shane Loux was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office. Loux became the first Express pitcher so honored since Bud Norris was picked up the weekly accolade in mid-June of last season. Iowa Cubs outfielder Jason Dubois earned Player of the Week honors.
Five days removed from his least-effective start of the season, Loux hurled a complete-game, five-hit shutout against Albuquerque in his final start of the season. It was his first complete-game since 2008 and his first complete-game shutout since 2004. Loux scattered five singles, two of which were of the infield variety. After allowing a single in each of the first three innings, he retired 16 of 17 batters until an eight-inning single. Loux did not allow more than one runner in any inning and allowed only one runner into scoring position, stranding a runner at third base in the fifth. He finished with six strikeouts and no walks.
The start capped an up-and-down season for Loux, who has seen Major League time in parts of four seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2002, 2003) and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2008, 2009). Loux, the 2008 PCL Pitcher of the Year while with the Salt Lake Bees, spent six weeks of the 2010 season on the disabled list after working 5.0 innings in his first start of the season. He was 2-1 in his first three starts after rejoining the Express but lost each of his next 10 starts. Loux was 4-1 with a 2.52 ERA in his last six starts.
It was the eighth career shutout for Loux, who was the Tigers second-round draft pick in 1997. He owns 93 career professional victories, 90 of which have come in the Minor Leagues.
