Torres Named a MWL Post Season All-Star

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - TinCaps outfielder Nick Torres was named to the Midwest League's 2015 Post Season All-Star Roster on Monday, the league announced. The team was selected by the Field Managers of the 16 Midwest League clubs.

"It's an honor to be selected," Torres said from Lake Elsinore, Calif. He was promoted by the Padres from Fort Wayne to the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League on July 10. "Thanks again to all the fans in Fort Wayne for their support this season."

At the time of his departure from the TinCaps, Torres was the team's best hitter, and one of the best in the entire league. In 77 games with Fort Wayne, he hit .326 (tied for 2^nd best in the MWL) with 29 doubles (1^st), 133 total bases (3^rd), 94 hits (5^th), and a .462 slugging percentage (10^th). Torres, who was also a mid-season All-Star, had been leading the TinCaps with 40 RBIs and a .378 on-base percentage as well.

Defensively, as a corner outfielder, he played more games than anyone else in the league without committing an error.

"Nick was a great leader for us," TinCaps manager Francisco Morales said. "We're here to develop young players, so we're happy to see the success he's had this year even if it's meant he's left us. We're very proud to see him receive this recognition. It's well-deserved."

Torres entered Monday with a .287 batting average, one home run, and 21 RBIs in 38 games with Lake Elsinore. 

Despite the absence of Torres, the TinCaps have continued to win. With 15 games remaining in the regular season, Fort Wayne has a three-game lead on West Michigan for first place in the Eastern Division. The TinCaps are eight games in front of third-place Lake County and South Bend. The top two teams go on to the playoffs.

The TinCaps are home for six games this week at Parkview Field where they've won 13 consecutive games. Fort Wayne hosts the Lansing Lugnuts (Blue Jays) Monday-Wednesday and the Lake County Captains (Indians) Thursday-Saturday.
