Britton placed on DL, Batista returns from Double-A
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Chicago Cubs today made a series of transactions affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game against Sacramento. Left-handed pitcher Drake Britton has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with left shoulder soreness, and right-handed pitcher Frank Batista has been promoted to Iowa from Double-A Tennessee.
Britton, 26, is 7-8 with a 5.14 ERA (47ER/82.1IP) and 44 strikeouts over 27 appearances, including 11 starts, for Iowa this season.
Batista, 26, joins Iowa for the second time this season. He is 1-4 with a 6.48 ERA (18ER/25.0IP) and 12 strikeouts in nine appearances, including four starts for Iowa this year.
The Dominican Republic native went 7-2 with a 1.73 ERA (16ER/83.1IP) and 56 strikeouts in 14 starts over two stints for Double-A Tennessee this season.
With these moves, Iowa's active roster is at 24 players plus two players on the disabled list and one player on major league rehab.
Iowa has now made 191 player transactions this season, a franchise record. The mark broke the previous record of 172 set in 2013. It is the third time in four seasons the I-Cubs have set a transactions record.
