Vancouver drops fourth straight to Boise as playoff hopes begin to fade

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Despite keeping pace with the Hawks for the much of the game, the Canadians dropped their fourth straight to Boise in a 5-3 loss on Thursday afternoon at Scotiabank Field.
The Canadians scored first for only the second time this series. Taking advantage of a fielding error on a double by Sean Hurley, 3B Justin Atkinson crossed the plate, scoring from first, to put the C's on the board early in the game.
Boise answered right back in the top of the 2nd inning as LF Terry McClure came around to score evening the score at 1-1. The Hawks tacked on another pair of runs in the top of the 5th inning stretching its lead by two after SS Scott Burcham and CF Brian Carroll both came in to count.
Vancouver matched the two runs in the bottom of the following frame, when 2B Rolando Segovia scored both Hurley LF Connor Panas on a two-run single to center field bringing the score to 3-3.   
The Hawks would add another in the 8th inning after PH Tyler Follis made good on an offensive substitution, hitting a double to right field that would allow Brian Mundell to score from second base. Boise would score a final insurance run on a home run off the bat of C Steven Leonard making the final 5-3, Boise.
Canadians starter LHP Evan Smith went 3.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits, while striking out two batters before being replaced by RHP Ryan Cook.
Reliever LHP Brandon Hinkle gave up two runs and picked up his first loss of the season after 3.0 innings of work, striking out three batters.
The Canadians head back to Spokane for a four-game series, beginning with a double-header on Friday afternoon to make up a game postponed due to poor air quality conditions. First pitch is at 5:00pm
