Ficociello's Monster Night Powers Erie to Victory
The SeaWolves opened a four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators on Thursday night with a thrilling 5-4 victory.
Harrisburg jumped ahead in the first inning against Erie starter Michael Fulmer. Wilmer Difo led off with a single and scored on a Reegie Corona double for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the last of the first against Harrisburg starter Austin Voth. With one out, JaCoby Jones doubled. With two outs, Dominic Ficociello belted a two-run home run, his second, giving the SeaWolves a 2-1 lead.
Harrisburg regained the lead in the top of the second. With one out, Issac Ballou connected on a solo home run, tying the game. Adrian Sanchez and Brian Jeroloman followed with base knocks putting runners on the corners for Derrick Robinson. Robinson singled home Sanchez for a 3-2 Senators lead.
Erie regained the lead in the fifth. Harold Castro and James Robbins each walked to start the inning. Voth went on to strike out Jones and Jeff McVaney for the next two outs. Ficociello stepped and put the SeaWolves ahead with a three-run home run to make it 5-4. Ficociello is the fourth SeaWolves batter with a multi-homer game.
Two SeaWolves relievers, Matt Crouse and Montreal Robertson would toss the final four scoreless preserving the win. Robertson earned his second save of the season.
Fulmer (10-3) earned the win allowing four runs on eight hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. The eight strikeouts was a season-high with Erie (He struck out nine three times with Binghamton).
