Flashback: June in the Southern League
June 4 -- Huntsville right fielder Ron Acuna went 3-for-5 with six RBIs as the Stars routed Birmingham, 12-4. Acuna smacked a two-run triple in the first inning, an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run single in the sixth.
June 4 -- Tydus Meadows went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, four of which came on a sixth-inning grand slam, to lead Jacksonville to a 13-5 victory over Mobile. Meadows' slam came during an eight-run sixth that broke up Mobile starter Roger Deago's no-hitter.

June 5 -- Jacksonville right fielder Tydus Meadows was named the Southern League Offensive Player of the Week. Besides hitting a grand slam and driving in five runs against Mobile, Meadows was 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs three days earlier. Meadows batted .450 with three home runs and nine RBIs on the week.
June 5 -- Huntsville starter Tim Dillard was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week after going 1-0 with a 0.77 ERA in two starts. Dillard celebrated Memorial Day by tossing five scoreless innings against West Tenn and gave up one earned run in 6 2/3 innings of a win over Birmingham.
June 6 -- Birmingham designated hitter Darren Blakely hit a walk-off home run in the 10th inning to give the Barons a 5-4 victory over Huntsville. Blakely entered the game as a pinch-runner and scored in the eighth inning.
June 7 -- Mobile manager Gary Jones earned his 1,000th career win as the BayBears blanked Tennessee, 3-0. Luis Cruz swatted a two-run homer in the eighth inning to snap a scoreless tie. Sean Thompson, Paul Abraham and Dale Thayer combined on the five-hit shutout.

June 7 -- Jacksonville right-hander T.J. Nall struck out a career-high 10 in seven innings as the Suns defeated Huntsville, 4-1, to help clinch the first-half South Division title. Nall permitted one run on six hits without issuing a walk.
June 8 -- Mississippi shortstop Luis Hernandez went 5-for-5, but the Braves lost to Chattanooga, 6-5, despite out-hitting the Lookouts, 14-8. The big day raised Hernandez's batting average to .248.
June 8 -- Mark Prior threw 76 pitches in five innings of a rehabilitation start, helping West Tenn to a 6-4 victory over Birmingham in front of 2,942 at Pringles Park. Prior permitted three runs on four hits in his third Minor League start of the year. He struck out four and walked two while hitting 91 MPH on the radar gun.
June 11 -- Andy LaRoche went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs as the Jacksonville Suns rolled to their 12th straight win with a 7-0 victory over Huntsville. LaRoche swatted a two-run blast in the fifth to help the Suns equal their longest winning streak since 1998.

June 13 -- Andrew Sonnanstine tossed a three-hit shutout for his first complete game of the season as Montgomery blanked Mobile, 7-0. The Biscuits' right-hander struck out four and didn't walk a batter while snapping a personal three-game losing streak. The complete-game shutout was the first in Biscuits history and earned Sonnanstine the Southern League Pitcher of the Week award on June 19.
June 12 -- Miguel Negron of West Tenn was named the Southern League Offensive Player of the Week. Negron batted .765 -- yes, .765 -- in five games. He had 13 hits in 17 at-bats, and hit safely in seven consecutive at-bats at one point.
June 12 -- Jacksonville starter Joel Hanrahan was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week after earning two wins without giving up an earned run in two starts. The right-hander struck out eight and walked five in six one-hit innings against Mobile. He surrendered three hits in seven scoreless innings against Huntsville.
June 16 -- Luis Hernandez drove in four runs as the Mississippi Braves defeated Jacksonville, 11-7, ending the Suns' 15-game win streak. The Suns fell one win short of matching the longest stretch in Southern League history. Montgomery won 16 straight in 1968.
June 17 -- Agustin Murillo led Tennessee to a 6-3 win over Chattanooga by driving in five runs. Murillo went 2-for-3 and swatted a three-run dinger in the third inning. He also had a run-scoring single in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

June 18 -- Anderson Machado singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as Chattanooga defeated Tennessee, 8-7, to clinch the Southern League North Division first-half title. The Smokies appeared to tie the score in the bottom half of the inning, but Jerry Gil was ruled to have left third base early on what would have been a sacrifice fly by Miguel Montero. Gil was called out on the appeal, ending the game and clinching the title.

June 19 -- Chattanooga first baseman Joey Votto was named the Southern League Player of the Week. Votto batted .519 (14-for-27) with four home runs and nine RBIs in that span. He had five multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-5 peformance with two home runs in Tennessee's division-clinching win.
June 20 -- Tennessee left fielder Alex Frazier went 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Smokies to a 14-3 victory over Birmingham. Frazier had a run-scoring single in the first inning and a two-run double in the fifth. He doubled home another run in the seventh and picked up his fifth RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Frazier raised his average 13 points to .196 with the outburst.

June 22 -- West Tenn second baseman Eric Patterson led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk-off home run to give the Diamond Jaxx a 3-2 victory over Mississippi. Patterson swatted the first pitch he saw from Braves reliever Zach Schreiber over the right-field fence to finish 3-for-4 and a double short of the cycle.

June 22 -- Pinch-hitter Matt Lauderdale led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk-off home run that gave Mobile an 8-7 victory over Huntsville. Lauderdale mashed a Brett Evert offering over the left field fence for his second home run in as many days.
June 22 -- Right-hander Homer Bailey pitched six scoreless innings in his Double-A debut to lead Chattanooga to a 7-0 win over Carolina. The 20-year-old struck out seven without issuing a walk. Bailey finished his 98-pitch outing by hitting 98 MPH on the radar gun.
June 24 -- Jacksonville first baseman Craig Brazell went 3-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the Suns over Carolina, 10-0, and give T.J. Nall his sixth straight win. Nall struck out 10 in seven innings for the third time in June, earning Pitcher of the Week honors on June 26. Brazell bashed a three-run homer in the first inning, brought in another run with a groundout in the second and hit an RBI single in the fourth.

June 25 -- West Tenn left-hander J.R. Mathes threw a four-hitter in his first career shutout as the Diamond Jaxx defeated the Tennessee Smokies, 6-0. Mathes retired 14 straight batters between the second and seventh innings.
June 26 -- West Tenn's Eric Patterson was named the Southern League Offensive Player of the Week after batting .480 (12-for-25) with one home run, six RBIs and five runs scored. Patterson had three three-hit games during the week
June 27 -- A league-high eight West Tenn players were selected to play in the annual Southern League All-Star game. Three of West Tenn's five starting pitchers were chosen to represent the league. The Tennessee Smokies had six players named to the team and the Chattanooga Lookouts had five.
June 27 -- Birmingham left fielder Cory Aldridge went 5-for-5 as the Barons racked up 19 hits in an 11-2 victory over Mississippi. All of Aldridge's hits were singles and he scored two runs.
June 27 -- Chattanooga starter Homer Bailey pitched six hitless innings in his second Southern League start as the Lookouts defeated Huntsville, 7-1. Bailey struck out six, walked two and was removed from the game with the no-hitter intact. Callix Crabbe homered off reliever David Shafer with two outs in the ninth to break up the no-hit bid.
June 27 -- Ross Ohlendorf tossed a four-hit shutout as Tennessee defeated West Tenn, 1-0, to complete a doubleheader sweep. Ohlendorf struck out four and did not walk a batter in his seventh straight win. The shutout was the third of his career.
June 28 -- Tim Dillard struck out a season-high eight batters and went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Huntsville to a 5-4 victory over Chattanooga. Dillard took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before allowing a one-out triple to Chris Dickerson. Chattanooga scored in the inning, halting Dillard's consecutive scoreless innings streak at 21 1/3.
June 28 -- Montgomery right-hander Tony Peguero took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Biscuits defeated Mobile, 6-0. Peguero retired 14 consecutive batters before Stephen Smitherman led off the seventh with a single. Peguero struck out seven in seven innings and allowed one hit and three walks.

June 30 -- Christopher Walker went 2-for-4 and stole four bases to help West Tenn to a 5-4 victory over Huntsville. The Diamond Jaxx stole six total bases in the game without being caught.
