Riley And Yepez Homer, Braves Win 4-1
DANVILLE, VA- Austin Riley and Juan Yepez both recorded solo home runs, and the D-Braves rolled to a 4-1 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays. Starter Mike Soroka went four innings for Danville, only allowing one run on five hits, while recording a career high in strikeouts with seven. D-Braves closer Matt Custred entered the game in the eighth inning with two outs, and pitched the remainder of the game to record his fourth save of the year. The Braves bats came alive for 12 total hits, 11 of which coming off Blue Jay starting pitcher Geno Encina.
The Blue Jays would score their one and only run in the top of the second inning. After Deifferson Barreto grounded out to second base, Blue Jays first baseman Christan Williams singled to left field. Jacob Anderson then singled to right field, advancing Williams to second base. With runners on first and second, Blue Jays third baseman Mattingly Romanin would walk to load the bases for Nick Sinay. Sinay was then hit by a pitch, and Williams would trot to home plate for the only Blue Jays run of the night.
Danville would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. D-Braves third baseman Austin Riley would tie the game with one swing of the bat as he led off the inning with a towering 417 foot home run to left center field. After the Riley home run, designated hitter Jeff Campbell singled to center field, which was followed by a Juan Yepez infield single, with Campbell advancing to second base. With runners at first and second, D-Braves catcher Trey Keegan singled up the middle for a base hit and an RBI as Campbell was waved around to score to make it 2-1 in favor of Danville.
The D-Braves would add runs in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Yeudi Grullon led off with a single into right field. Grullon's single was followed by a single to right field by D-Braves right fielder Ronald Acuna. With runners on first and second, Riley again came through with an RBI single to right field giving the Braves a 3-1 lead. Danville would add another run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Juan Yepez hit his third home run as a D-Brave to extend the Braves lead to 4-1.
The Danville Braves will host their final home game of the regular season tomorrow as they close out their three game series with the Bluefield Blue Jays. On the mound for Danville will be Daniel Cordero, and the Blue Jays will counter with Luis Sanchez. Game time is set for 7 PM. Tomorrow is also Fan Appreciation Fireworks Night presented by Comfort Inn & Suites. Fans will enjoy a postgame fireworks show at the conclusion of the game.
