Freeland Stymies Rawhide in 5-2 Loss
MODESTO--Rockies 1st Rounder Kyle Freeland limited the Rawhide to 2 runs in 7.1 innings, and Modesto bested Visalia 5-2 on Saturday night at John Thurman Field.
Johnny Shuttlesworth matched Freeland for 4 scoreless innings, but encountered trouble in the 5th, surrendering 2 runs on 2 singles, a sacrifice bunt, an RBI single, and a sacrifice fly.
The 'Hide scored in the 6th on a 2-out hit by Gerson Montilla, which scored Jamie Westbrook. But Modesto responded with a run in their half to make against Rawhide debutee Emilio Vargas, making it 3-1.
A Chuck Taylor triple and a Fidel Pena sacrifice fly pulled Visalia back within a run in the 7th, but Corelle Prime doubled a run in the home half to restore their 2-run advantage.
Ashley Graeter made it 5-2 with a run-scoring double in the 8th, and Matt Carisiti tossed a perfect 9th for the save.
The 'Hide are 80-52 overall, and 38-24 in the 2nd Half. They'll face Modesto in the series finale tomorrow night at 6:05.
