Houser has a four-game winning streak on the mound
August 31, 2015

BILOXI, MS - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced that Shuckers' 22-year-old starting pitcher Adrian Houser has earned Pitcher of the Week honors for August 24 through August 30. Over two starts this past week, the Locust Grove, Oklahoma native tossed 13.0 scoreless frames, moving his scoreless streak to 15.1 innings, while striking out seven and not issuing a walk. Houser finished 2-0 this week and is a perfect 4-0 over his first six starts with the Shuckers.

With a 0.62 WHIP, lowest among Southern League pitchers with 10 innings or more, Houser capped his week by helping the Shuckers to a 4-3 victory on Sunday at Mississippi. In his first start, a 9-0 win over Mobile, Houser gave up just two hits and two walks, while striking out three in seven scoreless frames. Five days later, he fired six more shutout innings, while striking out four Braves batters. Overall, Houser is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA (7 ER/35.0 IP) in six starts, adding 30 strikeouts and just four walks.

This is the first career weekly award for Houser, who was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers on July 30, as part of the trade that sent Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez to the Houston Astros. He was selected in the second round (69th overall) in the 2011 draft by Houston, out of Locust Grove High School in Oklahoma.

Houser joins 2015 Biloxi pitchers Brooks Hall and Brent Suter as winners of the Southern League weekly award this season.

Jackson Generals second baseman Tyler Bortnick was named Southern League Hitter of the week adding a .520 batting average, 10 runs scored, 13 hits, five extra-base hits, 22 total bases, three doubles, two homeruns, nine RBI, a .586 on-base percentage, .880 slugging percentage and OPS of 1.466.
