MOUSTAKAS CAPTURES HOME RUN TITLE

No Minor Leaguer Hit More Homers than the Former Blue Rock
September 14, 2010
Wilmington, DE - Former Wilmington Blue Rocks infielder Mike Moustakas is this year's winner of the Joe Bauman Home Run Award, presented by Musco Sports Lighting. The third baseman finished tied for the minor league baseball lead in regular-season homers.

Moustakas finished the 2010 campaign with a combined 36 home runs between his stints at Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. That total tied him with Salt Lake's Mark Trumbo. Moustakas, who turned 22-years-old over the weekend, was declared the winner on a tiebreaker, thanks to a higher RBI total than Trumbo.

Amazingly, Moustakas blasted his 36 round-trippers in just 118 games as a pair of injuries cost him nearly one month of the season. Trumbo needed 139 games to notch his 36 dingers.

Moustakas spent the 2009 season in Wilmington, and became the first Blue Rock in a decade to hit 16 home runs in a season. The third baseman was named the Texas League Player of the Year and the Sporting News Minor League Hitter of the Year this season. He also represented the Kansas City Royals in the XM All-Star Futures Game in July and will represent the United States on the Pan American qualifying team in October.

The Blue Rocks return to the field on April 8, 2011 as they open their season in Myrtle Beach, SC against the Pelicans. The full 2011 schedule will be announced later this off-season.
