Lovegrove, Algarin, Stewart Combine to Limit Spikes to Three Hits; Scrappers Fall 3-0
The Scrappers fell to 1-7 against the Spikes this season after a 3-0 loss to State College on Monday night at Eastwood Field.
Despite a solid five innings from Kieran Lovegrove, the Mahoning Valley bats weren't able to get anything going against Jorge Rodriguez.
State College only had three hits in the ballgame, and three of them came in the second inning.
Casey Grayson led off with a walk. He later scored on a ground out from Jose Godoy. A Cole Lankford single to center scored Orlando Olivera.
The Scrappers sparked a comeback, but nothing came through. Connor Marabell hit a double to left, but was stranded at third when Alexis Pantoja struck out swinging.
Lovegrove went five innings and gave up three earned runs on two hits. The other run was a sacrifice fly from Thomas Spitz to score Ronnierd Garcia.
Lovegrove, Erick Algrain, and Devon Stewart combined to limit the Spikes to just three hits.
Three of Mahoning Valley's seven losses to State College have been shutouts.
The Scrappers look to split the four-game series on Tuesday. Micah Miniard will get his first start for the Scrappers against Spikes' righty Dailyn Martinez. First pitch is set for 7:05 at Eastwood Field.
