Weiss Named 2015 Southern League Postseason All-Star
PENSACOLA, Fla., - Pensacola Blue Wahoos closer Zack Weiss has been named to the 2015 Southern League Postseason All-Star Team, announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Leading the Southern League in saves (25), the Irvine, Calif., native has recorded a 1-3 record with a 2.55 ERA and has converted 25 of 26 save opportunities. Weiss has given up only 14 walks and 37 hits this season and has posted 64 strikeouts.
Nearly untouchable in August, Weiss posted a 0.56 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and held opposing batters to hit just 0.98, all numbers lowest among Southern League closers last month. Selected by the Reds in the 6th Round of the 2013 Draft out of UCLA, Weiss was honored as the BC Relief Pitcher of the Month for August.
Weiss becomes only the second Wahoo to earn the honor in franchise history. Billy Hamilton was named to the team in 2012 as the Best Hustler.
