Banks Named Co-Logan Hurlbert Pitcher of the Year
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (September 4, 2015) - The Pioneer League announced their end of year awards and postseason All-Star Team late Friday, with Voyager lefty Tanner Banks and former Billings southpaw Ty Boyles sharing the Logan Hurlbert Pitcher of the Year Award. Banks was also one of five pitchers named to the postseason All-Star Team.
An 18th round selection by the White Sox in last year's draft, Banks has been a key member of the Great Falls rotation throughout the season, owning the second-lowest ERA among qualified pitchers at 2.73 through 13 starts. In 69.1 innings, the fourth-most in the league, the left-hander owns the lowest WHIP (1.05), the lowest walk rate (0.78 BB/9.0 IP), and the fourth-lowest opponent's batting average (.254).
In his first year as a starter in the minors, Banks led the Pioneer League in ERA in the first half, posting a 1.21 ERA to earn the starting nod for the league in last month's All-Star Game. The former Utah Ute also took home the league's Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of July 13-19 for his July 15 start in Ogden. In that outing, the 23-year old Banks held the Raptors scoreless, allowing just three hits.
The lefty is scheduled to make his final start of the regular season Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. as the Voyagers begin their final home series of the regular season against the Missoula Opsrey at Centene Stadium.
