The 22-year-old Profar joins the Riders from Class-A Hickory, where he played exclusively as the designated hitter in nine games. He missed all of 2014 with a torn teres major muscle in his right shoulder and has missed the entire 2015 major league season after undergoing labrum surgery in his right shoulder in February. Profar has played in 94 big league contests for the Rangers in 2012 and 2013.
On his current rehab assignment, Profar hit .273 with one home run, two runs scored, a double and five RBI with the Crawdads.
Profar last played for the Rangers on September 27, 2013. In 94 major league games, he owns a .231 average, seven home runs, 32 runs, 13 doubles, 28 RBI and three stolen bases. He had a hit in his lone postseason game against Baltimore in the 2012 Wild Card game.
The Curacao native spent the bulk of 2012 with the RoughRiders and made his major league debut for the Rangers as a September call-up. Profar batted .281 with 26 doubles, seven triples, 14 homers, and 62 RBI in 126 games with Frisco. He was selected to Baseball America's Minor League All-Star Team for the second straight year, becoming just the seventh position player to be selected in back-to-back years at the same position since 2000. The Texas League named him its best defensive shortstop and he ranked among the league leaders in triples (T4th, 7), total bases (6th, 217), walks (T7th, 66), runs (8th, 76), slugging (10th, 452), doubles (T11th, 26), and RBI (12th, 62). He compiled a 50-game on-base streak, the longest of any minor league player that season and was named both a Mid-Season and Post-Season Texas League All-Star
Additionally, Profar has played for the World Team twice (2011 & 2012) in the annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. He tripled in the contest in 2011 and hit a home run in his first at bat of the 2012 game. Profar is expected to join the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League following the conclusion of the Minor League Baseball season. The Rangers originally signed Profar as a non-drafted free agent in 2009.
