Erik Komatsu honored with Robin Yount Performance Award

September 27, 2010

VIERA, Fla. --- The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Saturday that Brevard County Manatees outfielder Erik Komatsu was one of two recipients of the 2010 Robin Yount Performance Award, which are given to the top position player and pitcher in the Brewers minor league system.

Komatsu is the sixth Brevard County player to win the award since the Manatees became an affiliate of the Brewers in 2005. Ryan Braun (2006) and Logan Schafer (2009) are the other Brevard County position players honored with the award. Tim Dillard (2005), Yovani Gallardo (2006) and Amaury Rivas (2009) are the three former Manatee pitchers honored with the award.

In 2010, Komatsu played in 130 games for Brevard County and hit .323 with five home runs, 63 runs batted in and 28 stolen bases. He led the Manatees in eight offensive categories, while also leading the Florida State League in on-base percentage (.413), runs (90) and walks (68). Komatsu was second in the league in hits (157), total bases (215) and batting average.

The 22-year-old native of Camarillo, Calif. also ranked in the top five in the Brewers minor league organization in six offensive categories. He was selected as both a FSL mid-season and post-season All-Star.

His .323 batting average set a new single-season Brevard County record, topping the .319 mark set by both Joe Funaro in 1997 and Hernan Iribarren in 2006. Komatsu was selected by the Brewers in the eighth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft out of Cal-State Fullerton.

Komatsu was honored prior to Milwaukee's game against the Florida Marlins at Miller Park on Saturday night.
