Commissioner suspends trio
The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced Thursday that three Minor League players have received 50-game suspensions after each tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
St. Louis Cardinals' Venezuelan Summer League shortstop Lainer Bueno tested positive for Clenbuterol, a fat burner sometimes used by bodybuilders. He hit .228 with nine RBIs in 51 games. Los Angeles Angels' Dominican Summer League outfielder Reynaldo Ruiz tested positive for Boldenone, and Baltimore Orioles' DSL shortstop Alfredo Zambrano tested positive for Nandrolone, both well known anabolic steroids.
Ruiz appeared in 15 games but did not drive in a run, while Zambrano hit .140 with three RBIs in 18 games. The suspensions of all three players are effective at the start of the 2011 season.
