Twilight Night Named Theme Night of the Year

FRESNO, CA - MiLB.com has announced that the Fresno Grizzlies' Twilight Night, held June 26th, 2010 at Chukchansi Park, has been voted Theme Night of the Year. The event, which benefitted Central California Blood Center and drew a crowd of over 9,000 spectators, beat the other seven nominees in its field by the largest margin of victory of any of the four Promotion of the Year categories, garnering 46 percent of the total votes.

As a winner of its category, Twilight Night was then nominated with the other category winners as a finalist for MiLB.com Promotion of the Year.

Twilight Night took place on the evening of a lunar eclipse, in advance of the release of the highly anticipated third installment of the popular film series. Fans voted through the Grizzlies' Facebook Fan Page during the month of May between a customized vampire (Team Edward) or werewolf (Team Jacob) jersey. The winning jerseys (werewolf) were worn by the Grizzlies during Twilight Night and were auctioned off after the game, with proceeds aptly benefiting the CCBC. The Grizzlies also gave away passes to the midnight premiere of Twilight: Eclipse, which opened the following Wednesday.

A special "Choose Your Side" ticket offer was made available for the game. By using the promo code "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" at the Chukchansi Park Box Office, fans were be able to purchase a $10 Super View seat, three dollars off the regular price, and sit in the section with the rest of their team. In recognition that there would be fans in attendance that have an indifference towards or even a dislike of Twilight, the Grizzlies also offered the same $10 Super View ticket in the "Team Neither" section.

The evening's in-game entertainment featured vampire and werewolf player headshots, competitions between Team Jacob and Team Edward sections, a "moody romance" cam, and much more. Fans were encouraged to dress up and show support for their team of choice.

In the week leading up to Twilight Night, the Grizzlies and Y101 supported the CCBC and their "Twilight Fans Blood Drive", in which participants received a "Team Jacob" or "Team Edward" T-shirt when they donated at the Central California Blood Centers. Fans who wore their t-shirts to the game received a special 2-for-1 ticket offer for that night only, and represented their team by sitting in designated sections.

In addition to the Twilight madness, the night also included a Buster Posey Jersey T-Shirt Giveaway, presented by CCBC, available to the first 2,000 fans through the gates. The catcher, who helped lead the San Francisco Giants to the 2010 playoffs, is one of the recognizable players ever to have played in a Grizzlies uniform, and this provided a unique opportunity for fans to own a piece of wearable memorabilia from a marquee player.

The Fresno Grizzlies will begin their 10th season at Chukchansi Park on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 when they welcome the Las Vegas 51s to downtown Fresno. Season ticket and mini-plan packages are now available at the Chukchansi Park Box Office or by calling 559-320-HITS.
