San Jose Giants Jake Smith Voted Top Relief Pitcher
San Jose, CA- MiLB.com began unveiling their winners for the 2015 MiLBY Awards today. After three weeks of voting, 2015 San Jose Giants RHP Jake Smith was selected as the Fans' Choice for Top Relief Pitcher in all of Minor League Baseball. Having received 55% of the vote, Smith joins previous San Jose Giants MiLBY winners LHP Ty Blach (2013 Best Starting Pitcher) and INF Ricky Oropesa (2013 Best Moment).
A 48th-round pick in the 2011 draft, Smith (56 G, 4-4, 2.35 ERA, 16 SV) was voted the San Jose Giants 2015 Relief Pitcher of the Year. He was also named Baseball America's "Top Reliever" in the California League in a survey of league managers. All 16 of the right-hander's saves came in the second half and his 118 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings was tops among all relievers in the league.
