October 12, 2010
Fisher Cats outfielder finds himself among a short list of just six hitters in an online competition that seeks to determine the best slugger to display his talents in Double-A this past season. Eric Thames is up for the vote in the 2010 MiLB Best Hitter contest, running on milb.com through October 18th.

Thames, a 23-year old from Santa Clara, CA native, led all of Double-A Baseball driving in a single-season franchise record 104 runs as well as tying the Fisher Cats single-season home run record with 27 home runs. The hard-hitting Fisher Cats outfielder also piled up the All-Star awards as he was named to both the Eastern League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star Team. Thames also ranked among the tops on the team in doubles (25), triples (6), total bases (261) and slugging percentage (.526).

The other five players in competition for the award are Tagg Bozied (Reading Phillies), Brandon Guyer (Tennessee Smokies), Dave Sappelt (Carolina Mudcats), Clint Robinson (NW Arkansas Naturals) and Mike Moustakas (NW Arkansas Naturals).

Former Fisher Cats catcher, J.P. Arencibia, is also nominated for the Triple-A Best Hitter Award as he batted .301 with 32 home runs and 85 RBI's before being called up to the Toronto Blue Jays in September.

Voting is being conducted at every level of affiliated professional baseball. In the coming weeks, voting will be conducted for best reliever, best game, and best team. To cast your vote for Thames and Arencibia, CLICK HERE!
