Fightins Coach Morandini Named to Phillies Staff

Reading Baseball Hall of Famer to be Phillies' First Base Coach in 2016

2015 Fightins coach Mickey Morandini was named the Philadelphia Phillies' first base coach, manager Pete Mackanin announced today. In his new position, Morandini will also handle baserunning duties. 

A member of the Reading Baseball Hall of Fame for his 1989 season in Baseballtown, he spent 11 years in the majors where he was a member of the 1993 National League champion Phillies and 1995 All-Star team. The second baseman also spent time with the Chicago Cubs (1998-99) and Toronto Blue Jays (2000). He finished his career hitting .268 with 209 doubles, 54 triples, and 123 stolen bases.

 Following his baseball career, Morandini spent five seasons as a member of the Phillies player development staff (2011-15). He began as a manager with Williamsport (short season A) in 2011 and went on to manage Lakewood (A) for two seasons. The 41-year old served as a coach for Lehigh Valley (2014) and Reading (2015) during his final two seasons in the minors.

Morandini joins fellow Reading alums Larry Bowa (1967) and Juan Samuel (1983) on Mackanin's coaching staff for the 2016 season.
