Mike Stanton Nominated for Two Awards

January 25, 2013
The Jacksonville Suns are proud to announce Florida Marlins and former Suns outfielder Michael Stanton is a nominee for two (2) 2010 This Year in Baseball Awards.

OF Mike Stanton, a highly-touted prospect who made fame by hitting very long homeruns in his stint with the Suns, could have easily been in the running for the ROY award. Stanton compiled a .313 average, 21 homeruns and 52 runs batted in in just 53 games with the Jacksonville Suns in 2010 before being called up to the Florida Marlins on June 8th. Stanton progressively turned in better numbers monthly while playing for the Marlins and ended the season on an 11 game hitting streak and a .259 average with 22 homeruns and 59 runs batted in.

He led all rookies for homeruns in just 359 at-bats. Given a full year with those numbers and Stanton could have been a front runner for the ROY award. Along with the 2010 This Year In Baseball Award rookie of the year, Stanton is also up for oddity of the year when he kicked in the bullpen gate going to a ball.
