Rock Cats Nominated for Top Minor League Baseball Award

New Britain is Eastern League's Pick for 2010 John H. Johnson President's Award
October 20, 2010

New Britain, CT - For an unprecedented fourth consecutive year, the Eastern League of Professional Baseball has nominated the New Britain Rock Cats for the John H. Johnson President's Trophy, a singular award given each season to the one club in all of Minor League Baseball that best exemplifies "the complete baseball franchise."

The announcement of this year's nomination was made earlier today at the Eastern League Offices in Portland, ME.

Among the key performance categories taken into consideration when selecting the Trophy's annual winner are: contributions to the baseball industry, involvement in and support for the franchise's local community, long-term stability of the franchise, financial success of the overall operation, and ongoing promotion of the game and business of baseball. The Rock Cats have been a part of the Eastern League since 1983, making the team both the longest continuously-operating professional sports franchise in the state of Connecticut and the second-longest tenured club in the historic League. The just-concluded 2010 Season marked the tenth time in the past eleven years that the New Britain franchise established a new Single-Season Attendance mark. The 2010 Rock Cats attracted 368,523 fans to New Britain Stadium this year, surpassing the previous milestone - 366,682 - achieved in 2009. The Rock Cats also continued their community-centered charitable efforts in 2010, actively partnering with over 100 Connecticut and Western Massachusetts organizations to raise awareness and resources for worthy individuals and community causes. Moreover, the club's charitable arm - the Rock Cats Foundation - continued to extend important support to their neighbors through the provision of scholarships, community sponsorships, and a wide variety of similarly beneficial donations.

Upon learning of today's nomination, Rock Cats' President & CEO Bill Dowling remarked: "The entire Rock Cats organization is deeply flattered by this repeat nomination from our peers in the Eastern League. I view this as a tribute to the Rock Cats outstanding staff - an attentive and caring team that is dedicated to providing our fans with a quality experience every time they come to New Britain Stadium. This is really about them and their sustained commitment to excellence."

The winner of the 2010 John H. Johnson President's Trophy will be announced at the upcoming Baseball Winter Meetings scheduled for December in Orlando, FL.
