PawSox to host Thanksgiving Luncheon and Football Game at McCoy Stadium
The Pawtucket Red Sox will host a Thanksgiving-style luncheon for children from Pawtucket's Agnes E. Little Elementary School this Friday, November 20, and the club will again host a high school football game on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 25, at McCoy Stadium.
The luncheon, featuring homemade traditional Thanksgiving fare, will be prepared by PawSox Chef Ken, and will include turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, and desserts. Popular mascots Paws and Sox are expected to attend, bearing gifts for each child.
The football game, a McCoy Stadium tradition that dates back more than 70 years, features the two public high schools in Pawtucket, as Tolman High plays Shea High in their 14th annual meeting (Tolman leads the series, 7 games to 6). The 2015 game begins at 6 p.m. and admission is $6.00 at the gate or $4.00 if purchased in advance at either school. Full ticket and concession proceeds go to both schools.
"We look forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with children in our Pawtucket neighborhood," said PawSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg. "In addition to providing a warm holiday meal, several of our front office members will chat with the students about careers in baseball, and hear how education is essential in that pursuit."
"We're excited to continue the long-standing tradition of high school football here at the ballpark," said PawSox Senior Vice President/General Manager Dan Rea, "and we look forward to hosting the players, coaches, students, and fans from both Tolman and Shea for another edition of this competitive in-town rivalry."
