San Jose Giants Announce 2011 Schedule

SAN JOSE, CA- The two-time defending California League champion San Jose Giants unveiled their 2011 schedule today. The 24th season of the San Jose Giants affiliation with the San Francisco Giants begins on Thursday, April 7th at Lake Elsinore with the home opener set for Thursday, April 14th against the Visalia Rawhide. The Opening Night Extravaganza will include a post-game fireworks display, 2011 magnet schedule giveaway, a special ceremony honoring the 2010 championship team and much more.

The San Jose Giants 70 home game schedule is anticipated to include the return of fan favorite theme nights such as Homecoming Night, A Giant Luau, Italian Night, Latino and Japanese Heritage Nights while other new events are also expected. The Giants will celebrate Independence Day with a spectacular post-game fireworks extravaganza on July 4th in addition to hosting games on Memorial Day (May 30th), Father's Day (June 19th) and Labor Day (September 5th).

The San Jose Giants finished second in the California League in attendance last season for the first time in franchise history as the club eclipsed the 200,000 mark for the second straight year. The Giants have produced a winning tradition of baseball claiming six championships (1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010) in the last 13 years. Last month, San Jose secured their first back to back championships in franchise history while they're the first team in the California League to have won four titles over a six-year span. The Giants have also won a league-record six consecutive first half North Division crowns.

The 2011 season is expected to be another exciting year of San Jose Giants baseball. The San Francisco Giants Low-A affiliate, the Augusta GreenJackets, finished with the best overall record in their division last year at 79-59. The bulk of that successful Augusta team, in addition to other top 2010 draft picks, are expected to play for San Jose next season.
