Home of the Bees Has New Playing Surface

Major League Caliber Field Installed
October 26, 2010
SALT LAKE CITY - In anticipation of the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game, the Salt Lake Bees recently completed installation of a new playing surface at Spring Mobile Ballpark. Bluegrass sod, which is also found at Minnesota's new Target Field, Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Coors Field in Denver and Wrigley Field in Chicago, replaces the natural playing surface at the home of the Bees.

DuraEdge Pro, an infield dirt blend, will replace the old dirt used on the base paths, pitcher's mound and home plate area. It is the same mixture used at New York's new Citi Field, PNC Park in Pittsburgh and Target Field. Final installation of the blend should be complete by October 31.

Directing the installation of the new Major League caliber surface is Ryan Kaspitzke, head groundskeeper for the Bees. Kaspitzke just completed his sixth season with the club and is an 11-time member of the National Football League's Super Bowl grounds crew.
