October 28, 2010
Charlie Culberson keeps hitting as the 21-year-old extended his hit streak to 10 games with a 2-for-4 effort in Scottsdale's 7-6 loss to Mesa on Wednesday afternoon.

Culberson singled and scored as part of a six-run second for the Scorpions. The 2007 supplemental first-round pick followed by tripling to right in the top of the third. The Arizona Fall League's leading hitter boosted his average to .477 (21-for-44) while collecting his sixth multi-hit game in 10 AFL contests. The second baseman also paces the circuit in hits (21), total bases (35), and slugging (.795).

Third baseman Conor Gillapsie went 1-for-4 in the loss, with a RBI single and a run scored in Scottsdale's six-run second.

First baseman Brandon Belt went 0-for-4 in the contest. Right-hander Jason Stoffel entered the game in relief in the bottom of the fifth inning and surrendered four runs on five hits in his inning of work. The 22-year-old struck out a pair.

The four-run fifth pulled Mesa within a run and the Solar Sox tied the game on Josh Harrison's (Pirates) RBI double in the seventh. Kirk Nieuwenhuis (Mets) followed with a run-scoring single into center to drive in the game-winning run. With the come-from-behind win, Mesa (9-6) took over the American Division lead from Scottsdale (8-6). The Scorpions will host the Surprise Rafters on Thursday afternoon at 2:35 ET.

The Scottsdale Scorpions roster consists of players from the Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies, and Washington Nationals organizations. Daily updates from Scottsdale's games will appear on SquirrelsBaseball.com.
