Kernels add LED Ribbon Board for 2016

New board measures 8.5 feet high by 85 feet long
December 10, 2015

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels announce the addition of an LED outfield ribbon board to enhance the overall fan experience at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium for the upcoming 2016 season. Supplied by Daktronics, Inc. of Brookings, South Dakota, the new LED ribbon board is scheduled to be operational for the Kernels 2016 Opening Day game vs. Quad Cities on Thursday, April 7th

Building on the success of the Kernels LED video scoreboard, the new LED video ribbon board is located in right field, and compliments the existing LED display by providing additional display area that measures 8.5 feet tall by 85 feet long (168 x 1704 pixels) and utilizes the same brilliant display technology that wows fans on the main LED board.

The LED ribbon board will display live video, still graphics and custom animations and can be controlled independent of the main LED board or combined with the main LED board for a spectacular effect.

The new board will utilize the existing tri-vision sign structural steel and will also remove and recycle spare parts from six tri-vision signs, that will be used to maintain the remaining tri-vision outfield signage.

The LED ribbon board is part of an annual series capital improvement projects for Veterans Memorial Stadium. Past stadium projects included a new LED scoreboard in 2013 and the replacement of the playing field sod in 2014.

Removal of the existing tri-vision outfield signs began on December 1st, and will continue throughout the winter. Installation of the LED ribbon board will take place over a two-week period starting in March, 2016.

The Kernels open the 2016 Midwest League season at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, April 7th against the Quad Cities River Bandits. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.

Season ticket packages for the 2016 season are on sale now by calling the Kernels at (319) 896-7622 or email Sammy Brzostowksi at [email protected]. Individual game tickets for the 2016 season go on sale Monday, March 14th at 10 AM.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the Midwest League affiliate of the Minnesota Twins and will host the 2016 MWL All-Star Game on June 21st.
