RiverDogs Rank #20 In Social Media In Minor League Baseball
CHARLESTON, S.C. - When it comes to nightly promotions, food and beverage, and record-breaking yearly attendance figures, few teams can match the Charleston RiverDogs. Now, the ever-growing impact of social media can be added to that list.
According to www.sportsfangraph.com, the RiverDogs rank #20 in all of minor league baseball in fans on Facebook and Twitter. Over 10,000 fans (8,602 on Facebook and 1,677 on Twitter) are following the RiverDogs for the latest team news, game updates, promotional info and special offers.
"It's not only been a great avenue for us to interact with our fans, but we had a lot of fun with it as well," said RiverDogs general manager Dave Echols. "We had the unique opportunity to receive direct feedback from our fan base and used it to make their experience even better."
In fact, if the 4,458 fans that currently follow the team's lovable mascot, Charlie T. RiverDog, on Facebook, the grand total of 14,737 fans would vault the RiverDogs to #6 on the list.
The 2010 campaign was especially meaningful for the RiverDogs. Not only did 269,023 click through the turnstiles to account for the third-largest season attendance figure in the 14-year history of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, but it was also the first year of the team's "Be Your Own Fan" marketing strategy, which was initiated to better gauge individual fan experiences through the use of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
Ticket plans for the 2011 season are now available by calling the RiverDogs front office at (843) 723-7241 or by visiting www.riverdogs.com.
