FORT MILL, S.C.  – Chris Chambliss has been named the new hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners.  Chambliss was the Charlotte Knights manager the past two seasons.

“My time in Charlotte was wonderful and I really enjoyed working with the team,” Chambliss said.  “There are good things coming in the future for the Charlotte Knights, the White Sox have good talent at the lower levels that will be making it’s way to Charlotte soon.”

In his two seasons in Charlotte, Chambliss went a combined 134-153 and helped send 30 players to the major leagues.  Under Chambliss, a former All-Star first baseman for the New York Yankees, the Knights finished third in the International League in home runs last season.

“My job with Seattle will be to put together a program for the young hitters they have and get them going.  It’s a great opportunity and I’m excited to get back to big league competition,” Chambliss said.

“We are thrilled for Chris and the opportunity for him to return to the major leagues,” Knights Vice President and General Manager Dan Rajkowski said.  “Both personally and professionally Chris couldn’t have been better to work with.  He did a great job developing our young players in the Carolinas.  I know his goal was to get back to the major leagues and we wish him well.”

Prior to his time as Knights manager Chambliss was the hitting coach for the Yankees (1996-2000), New York Mets (2002) and Cincinnati Reds (2004-06).
