January 6, 2016

Former Storm Chaser and three-time All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon has re-signed with the Kansas City Royals, as announced by the club on Wednesday. The length of the contract is four years, keeping Gordon in a Royals uniform through the 2019 campaign, with a mutual option also included for 2020.

One of the Royals' most popular players since making his Major League debut with the club in 2007, Gordon has combined for a .269 batting average (1140-4245) and over 1,000 hits in a Kansas City uniform over nine seasons and 1,136 games. Viewed as one of the best left fielders in the game currently, Gordon has won four Gold Glove Awards and been named an American League All-Star over each of the last three years.

Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, the 31-year-old was selected by the Royals as the second overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft out of the University of Nebraska. Just two years later he would make his Major League debut on April 2, 2007 against the Boston Red Sox.

In total, Gordon has played 94 games in Omaha over parts of three campaigns, combining for a .324 average (115-355) along with 82 runs, 26 doubles, four triples, 17 homers and 59 RBI, along with a .451 on-base percentage.

Gordon first played in Omaha in 2009, tallying a .313 clip (21-67), adding 17 runs, four doubles, one triple, two homers and ten RBI in 18 games. He most recently wore a Storm Chasers uniform for eight games during the 2015 season as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment, homering in his very first game at Werner Park.
