Laker Girls, Local Talent, Fireworks and more during the 2011 season!

November 18, 2010
APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) - There will be much more than baseball talent on the field during Lexington Legends games in 2011.

Among a wide variety of promotions and entertainment in the coming season, the Legends will present "Lexington's Got Talent" during a late July-early August homestand. Following several rounds of competition to narrow the field, the winner will be named Thursday, August 4 during the Legends game against Kannapolis.

As always, the Legends will present some of the best known entertainers in minor league baseball. Myron Noodleman (June 24), the Zooperstars (June 4) and the Bucket Boys (August 12) will be back. Breakin BBoy McCoy (April 29) and Birdzerk (May 27) will be part of the fun for the first time in 2011.

The Laker Girls, the Los Angeles Lakers' dance/cheerleading team, will appear July 30 when the Legends take on the Rome Braves. The Laker Girls perform at venues around the country throughout the year in addition to all Lakers' home games at the Staples Center.

"We have all the staples back as well as a few new incredibly engaging national acts and giveaways," said Legends General Manager Andy Shea. "We will have an incredibly exciting season-long production at the ballpark in 2011."

The Legends will welcome their canine fans on "Bark in the Park" nights May 14 and June 9, when dog owners may bring their dogs to the game. The May 14 game will also feature America's Best Frisbee Dogs.

Auto racing fans won't want to miss NASCAR night Saturday, June 11, and Legends fans of every age can join in the fun when "Big L" celebrates his birthday Saturday, August 13.

Fourteen post-game fireworks shows will be presented, and there are also 14 "Thirsty Thursdays" on the schedule, when most beverages will be sold for $1 each.

The Legends will offer three Education Days - April 13, May 16 and May 18. Games will begin at 10:05 a.m. on Education Days, which are always popular choices for school field trips.

Each Sunday home game is a JIF Kids Club Day, and fans age 12 and under are invited to run the bases after the game. The season also will include several giveaway nights, featuring caps, t-shirts, water bottles and other items.

Special nights throughout the season will recognize causes such as breast cancer awareness, heart health, autism awareness, military appreciation and many others.

"We are also specifically reaching out to some new community organizations, such as the Autism Society, to further extend our community involvement," said Legends Director of Community Relations Stephanie Fish.

Most weekday and Saturday games will begin at 7:05 p.m. Sunday games up until Memorial Day will begin at 2:05 p.m. After Memorial Day, Sunday games will start at 5:05 p.m. The Legends will be at home for seven full weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday games). Four other weekends will offer home games on Friday and Saturday.

The Legends, a class A affiliate of the Houston Astros, will open their 11th season at home Thursday, April 7 at 7:05 p.m. against the Charleston RiverDogs, a farm club of the New York Yankees. For more information, call the Legends box office at (859) 422-7867 or visit www.lexingtonlegends.com.
